Pirates Series–Ending It Like They Started

The Cubs ending the first half of the season like they started it: with a series loss to the Pirates. The difference though is that the Pirates are gunning for first instead of preparing themselves for another season of cellar dwelling. The media tried to make some drama out of a Quade/Demp disagreement to detract from the only win, but Demp is far too classy for that. They’re more disappointing than the season so far.

It’s been a long, hard first half, so here’s the last bit of fun before the hard earned break.

No one does a sac bunt in a more badass fashion.

 -Barney continues his RBI ways.

-Reed being Reed. Hit by a pitch, doubled, and made two fantastic shoe string catches in the same game.

-There was a guy in banana costume. Len said it best. “Okay then”.

-Kosuke with the diving grab and Byrd with the bear hug.

-Dave “Soup” Campbell filling in for Bob. We’re usually reluctant to accept fill-ins, but Soup won us over pretty quickly.

-Byrd’s rally pants.

-After nearly being taken out by a screaming liner foul, Kosuke motions to Ramirez to hit it between the lines next time.

-Jeff Samardzija throwing two nice innings.

-James Russell throwing two nice innings. Don’t let the ERA fool you: as a reliver he’s sitting at 1.49 in 30 1/3 innings.

-Koyie Hill with a nice block at the plate preventing a run. All hail the Patron Player!
