It’s been a rough go for the Cubs. After getting through spring training unscathed, Karma dropkicked the team hard. As of right now, Wells, Cashner, Soto, Byrd, and Garza are on the DL. Wells and Soto should be on their way off, which is somewhat of a relief, but we’ve also had some close calls. Baker has come close to disaster a couple of times, most recently a groin strain. Fukudome and Pena have also both been day-to-day at some point.
When Castro was slow to get up after diving for a ball in the last game at Fenway (right after Baker strained his groin) and showed some pain, the dread was palpable. Thankfully, it was a momentary thing.
But it goes to show that our team is in dire need of healing and those healthy need to stay that way.
This is why I’m doing what’s best for my team and opening a new, specialized clinic just for the ball players that provides Get Well Hugs and Boo Boo Kisses. Cartoon character band aids will also be provided, whether the patient is bleeding or not, and suckers for those who are especially brave.
Hey, it works for Moms.
And we need all the help we can get.
