Astros Series: Hot on the Outside, Icy Cold in the Middle

This series started on a good note and ended on a better one. I think everyone would like to forget the game in the middle (James Russell couldn’t catch a break; the defense didn’t show up until the 3rd inning; they didn’t score a run until the 7th; John Grabow had a Pirates relapse), though it did have a few good points (Jeff Samardzija pitched well for Jeff Samardzija; Tyler Colvin hit a home run; Jeff Stevens and Marcos Mateo pitched well; Marlon Byrd went 3 for 3; Starlin Castro continued his heat streak).

But never mind the good, the bad, and the ugly…what was fun about this series?

Darwin Barney: Spider Monkey

-The Castro-Barney tag team, both on field and at the top of the order. These kids are a good time.

-Len and Bob discussing mouth pieces. Bob busting out the rule book on runners getting out of the baseline. Len pointing out the “air traffic controllers still in uniform”. Really, Len and Bob are the saving grace of any game the Cubs are tanking.

-Scoring five runs in the first inning. That’s always a party. Keep the line moving.

Geovany Soto‘s double foul ball. That was pretty sweet.

Koyie Hill getting dugout foul ball ducking lessons from Ivan DeJesus.

-Castro stealing bases. Now people will stop complaining about the Cubs not having a stolen base until they decide they don’t have enough stolen bases.

-The best part of any game at the juice box in Houston…This guy:

This guy rocks the Yosemite Sam like nobodys business.
