You remember Sam Fuld, right?
It seems our former Cubbie Cornfielder is making quite a name for himself down in Tampa Bay. Some regular playing time in the big boy league is opening a few more eyes to what some observant Cubs fans already knew: Sam Fuld is fun to way and he’s going to give you your money’s worth.
In two games against the Sox (White and Red), he’s made, by my unofficial count, about 40 fantastic catches in both right and left field, and in the blowout against the Red Sox was a single shy of a cycle because he just couldn’t stop at first on his last hit and had to make two out of it.
Go for broke. That’s Sammy.
I remember him busting open his face on the fence, I think at Dodger’s Stadium, making a catch. That right there cemented him in my heart permanently.
Due to the log jam of players and big salaries in the outfield, Sam’s time in Chicago was limited. When he was traded, I was sad to see him go, but had hope that with his new team, he’d see more playing time and be able to shine.
Sure it’s still early in the season, but you can’t deny that so far he has.
Must be that Florida sunshine.
